Authors of fiction and non-fiction (writers, poets, translators, book illustrators and artists) are entitled to compensation for the use of books in libraries, which is paid once a year (in June) for the preceding year. The total amount of this remuneration is allocated annually by the Ministry of Culture. The amount of the compensation paid to a particular author depends on the number of times the author’s book has been lent to readers in libraries. The compensation for the use of books is calculated on the basis of data provided by 64 Lithuanian public libraries.
Authors wishing to receive compensation for the use of books in libraries must submit a separate application form for each book. Applications need to be filled in only once and do not need to be repeated each year, unless you want to add new editions to the list.

Senior Specialist of Book Use and Reprographic Reproduction
Authors of fiction and scientific literature (writers, poets, book illustrators, painters and photographers), as well as authors of nonfiction works (journalists) have the right to receive compensation for the reproduction of their works for personal purposes by means of reprography (i.e. copying and printing). This fee is paid by companies that provide paid copying and printing services and importers and manufacturers of reprographic equipment. The compensatory salary is paid once a year (in June) for one previous year.
Compensatory remuneration for reproducing works for personal purposes by means of reprography is received by those authors who receive remuneration for the use of books in libraries, therefore there is no need to fill out separate applications for reprography. This fee is calculated based on the data of book use in libraries.
Authors of nonfiction works (journalists) who wish to receive compensation for the reproduction of works by means of reprography must submit an application form.
More information on compensation for reprographic reproduction of works can be found here.

For copyright heirs
If the author was a LATGA member, we will issue a certificate confirming that, according to Law on Copyright and Related Rights, the heir was the owner of the copyright in artistic and scientific works. This certificate allows notaries to issue an inheritance certificate, passing the author’s property rights to the heir.
If the author was not a member, we do not issue certificates Heirs must provide other documentation to the notary proving the deceased was the author. These can be contracts with publishing houses, museums, proof of membership of a particular creative union, the work itself (e.g. a book, a record) or an inventory of works drawn up by a bailiff.
Property rights last for 70 years after the author’s death.

Frequently Asked Questions
I am a writer/poet/translator. Am I entitled to remuneration for the publication of my work on radio or TV?
When collecting remuneration from various music users, we also receive information about the use of poetry or prose works on radio/TV. In this case, we try to find the authors/translators of the works in question and pay them a fee. If they cannot be found, we add them to the list of music/song lyricists we are looking for and wait for a response so that we can pay them a fee.

Authors wishing to receive compensation for the use of books in libraries must submit application forms to LATGA by 31 December. The application forms must be completed only once. There is no need to reapply.
